In 1942 the Allies, under Britain’s Field Marshall Montgomery, halted the German-Italian advance towards the River Nile which was a major victory for the Allies, though not without loss of life, with some 11,000 killed and 60,000 wounded. Proceed to World War II remains and cemeteries. Your first stop will be at the Military Museum including displays of weapons, military garb and tanks. Then we visit the Commonwealth cemetery and recently erected memorials funded by the Australian and New Zealand governments. Through the arches and beyond the gardens, 7,000 white headstones commemorate the Australian, New Zealand and British soldiers who fought and died. Drive to visit Italian cemetery for Italian soldiers, launch will be during the tour, then our last stop it will be German cemeteries, The Cemetery is overlooking the sea on a small peninsula at the west of the town, Many persons go in tours in Egypt only to visit the tombs where their uncles, or grand fathers were buried, if the tourist is lucky he can find the name of his relative written on the walls in El Alamein.
